Grand Opening

Sunday, September 16

“We exist to connect people with Jesus, with one another and our world.”

Join us, and bring your friends, for the Grand Opening of Connections Church.

Families- we have a nursery and “Connection Kids” worship program ready to serve.

In preparation for the Grand Opening of the new Connections Church, we want to open our hearts and minds through prayer and petition with a week of praise and prayer to God for our church. Please join us for some or all of these upcoming events and get ready to open the church to its new beginning!

Bible Reading Vigil, September 15

It takes approximately 18 hours to read straight through the New Testament. Let’s do it!

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and the foundation of our church. So let’s replant as Connections Church, firmly rooted in the Word of God!  Our hope is to have the entire New Testament read, out loud, in our Worship Center, before our Grand Opening on September 16.

Sign up for a one or more one-hour time slots.  Then come to the church on September 15 for your designated reading time.

At the end of each hour, people will chart their progress and pass the Bible on to the next reader.  If we finish the New Testament before midnight we’ll read through the Psalms.

P.S. if you want to know where we got this idea read Nehemiah 8.

The Merger Story – Horizon Community Church and Apex Church becomes Connections Church

In the mid 90’s a group of Christians looked to the growing suburb of Highlands Ranch and felt called to start a new church to reach new people.  After years of praying and planning Horizon Community Church was launch in the fall of 1997.

For two decades Horizon had a faithful and fruitful ministry in the community.  Neighborhoods grew, times changes, and Horizon continued to serve and share the good news of Jesus Christ.

After several transitions in leadership Horizon recognized that its membership had declined and the original vision to be a new church reaching new people had grown dim.  And yet, as there so often is in the church and the people of God, there remained a hope for the future.  And so, in the fall of 2017, Horizon entered into a season of prayer to discern God’s will for His church.  The options were obvious- continue, sell, change- but it was unclear in which direction God would lead.

Meanwhile, in January 2016 a small group began to gather in borrowed facilities, just down the road in Littleton and called themselves Apex Church.  Like Horizon, Apex had the dream of reaching new people with the love of Jesus.  In the fall of 2017 Apex also entered a season of prayer to discern God will- should they continue on the path they started, or look to God for a change?

In December 2017 Horizon invited George Saylor, planter and pastor of Apex Church, to preach at their morning worship service, as Apex held their worship service in the evening. God was already at work, orchestrating times and events in ways that neither church had anticipated or accounted.

As the churches entered 2018 it was obvious that there was some “chemistry.”  Horizon was looking for a new lead pastor and a renewed vision for their mission.  Apex was praying for a sign, an open door, something to show they were on the right path.

In February the leadership of Horizon and Apex began to meet, pray, and talk together.  Was a merger of the churches God’s plan?  Were they aligned in their mission, vision and values?

On Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, Apex “officially” joined with Horizon in worship and began the process of replanting as a new church.  From there things began to move faster than anyone imagined:

  • a new, joint leadership team was formed
  • George Saylor was called and hired
  • the worship service completely overhauled
  • Articles of Incorporation were rewritten and
  • Bylaws were amended.

And most importantly, people kept praying, God kept moving, and ministry was happening!  People responded by generously giving their time and resources. The Worship Center was renovated.  The interior painted.  New carpet installed.

And now, on September 16, 2018, we celebrate the grand opening of Connections Church!

Jeremiah 29:10-13 tells us,
This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Praise God it didn’t take 70 years!  God’s people called on him. They sought him.  They prayed to him.  And has been faithful to his promise to the church.  He has shown us our future.  He has given us a new hope.

And the best is yet to come!
