The Promise Changes Us (Peter’s Conversion)

Bible Text: Acts 10 |

We might not know what our family says about us behind our back.

We might not know what our coworkers, friends, teachers, and neighbors say about us.

But we know what God says about us...

"... God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean."  ~ Acts 10:28

No person is merely "common" in the eyes of God.  You are fearfully and wonderfully made; you were knit together in your mother's womb; all the days prepared for you were set forth at the foundation of the world (Psalm 139).  You are beloved of God; a child of the heavenly Father.  You are a brother/sister in Christ.  You are the temple of the Holy Spirit.  You are an ambassador for the LORD.  You are a living saint!  In the estimation of God, you are an uncommon, incredible, unique masterpiece!  In fact, you are so precious to God that he gave his one and only son so that you might have eternal life (John 3:16). Indeed, there is NOTHING common about you!

There is no one "unclean" who calls upon Jesus for the forgiveness of sin.  You are washed clean.  You are made righteous.  You have been bought with a price.  In the waters of baptism, you can know once and forever that you are pure and raised to new life in union with Jesus your savior and Lord!

This week I invite you to remember this truth.  Embrace it.  Accept this even if it sounds too good to be true.  Whenever you start thinking negative thoughts about yourself, remember you are NOT common and NOT unclean.

Whenever someone speaks against you- a family member, friend, co-worker or random troll online, remember- you are NOT common and NOT unclean.

Whenever you feel a spiritual attack, an inner voice tearing you down, shout back the Word of God- you are NOT common and NOT unclean!
