April 8: The Promise Given (Holy Spirit and Ascension)

Acts 1:1-11

Jesus made a promise to his followers that sounded crazy- it was better for them that he go. How could it be better with Jesus gone? Because he would send us the Holy Spirit, who would bring about spiritual rebirth and dwell in each and every follower of Jesus.

As you pray this week, offer God thanks for sending His only Son to pay the debt of our sin with His death, and to defeat death with His resurrection.

Personal Prayer

  • Praise God for being a great and awesome God (Deut. 7:21). Ask God to use you to reflect his grace, serve faithfully, and share his good news when the time is right.
  • Confess times when you’ve thought God was small and powerless.

For your Family and Friends

  • Pray for any family members or friends who do not know Jesus personally. Ask that the light of the world will dawn on them.
  • Pray for those who are undergoing severe testing, that God may show them his purpose and strengthen them in their weakness (Heb. 12:7-13).

For the Church

  • Pray that God would prepare APEX and Horizon for merging and the community of Highlands Ranch for our outreach.
  • Pray that all who proclaim the gospel may be clothed with power from the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8) and may spread the Word of God boldly and clearly.

For the Community and Kingdom

  • Pray that the gospel may reach, touch, and renew the hearts and minds of people without hope in our world today.
  • Pray that the practice of hospitality might be a significant factor in breaking down walls of misunderstanding and distrust which divide Christians today.

For Sharing the Gospel

  • Ask that the spiritual eyes of those needing to know Jesus personally will be opened so that they will be able to recognize and appreciate God’s amazing power and majesty.
  • Name two or three people you know who are walking in spiritual darkness. Pray that the Holy Spirit will open their eyes so that they might have the light of life. (Jn. 8:12)

April 15: The Promise Fulfilled (Pentecost)

Acts 2: 1-13

The disciples did exactly what Jesus told them to do after his ascension- they waited. 10 days later the promise was fulfilled when the Holy Spirit came upon them. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead was raising men and women to new life!

Pray this week for an infusion of the power of God’s Spirit in your life.

Personal Prayer

  • Praise God for his unfathomable love. Give thanks that he will let nothing separate you from that love.
  • Confess and ask that God will strengthen your prayer life and help you to pray in the Spirit with all kinds of prayer, on all occasions, for all God’s people (Eph. 6:18). Pray that you will be in tune with the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

For your Family and Friends

  • Pray for them to have a strong and growing love for God and others.
  • Pray that your children will grow up in the training and instruction of the Lord and will learn to walk in his ways (Eph. 6:4).

For the Church

  • Pray for Pastor George as he prepares his messages for the [Re]placing Church series; for the worship team as they practice their music; for the Media Team as they put together our graphics, bulletins, and videos.
  • Pray that guests to our church will be struck by the awesomeness of God as they join in worship with us – that they will be welcomed and sense Christ-like love through our Welcome Hosts, nursery and Sunday School teachers, and the congregation.

For the Community and Kingdom

  • Jesus instructed his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Mt. 28:19). Pray that God will bring about the day when “all nations” have the opportunity to hear and believe the gospel.
  • Ask that people in your neighborhood who do not yet know Jesus will be drawn to him by observing your Christ-like behavior.

For Sharing the Gospel

  • Jesus said, “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life” (Jn. 5:24). Pray that unsaved friends, neighbors, and co-workers will hear, believe and be saved.
  • Pray for boldness to try new things in sharing the gospel with others. Infuse us with renewed energy. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Is. 40:31).

April 22: The Promise Shared (Peter’s sermon)

Acts 2:14-17, 22-24, 36-41

The promise was fulfilled when a disciple named Peter shared the good news of Jesus, and more than 3,000 people were spiritually reborn, and the church was given birth.

Pray this week for the development of vision and dreams for our church…that all who call on the name of our God will be saved (vs. 39).

Personal Prayer

  • Praise God as the source of everything that is good, holy, just, and beautiful.
  • Ask that you “may have power…to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge” (Eph. 3:17-19).

For your Family and Friends

  • Pray that God’s mercy will be reflected in you in such a way that it draws others closer.
  • Pray for broken families to be healed, that needs be met through the power of Jesus.

For the Church

  • Pray for our Church Staff as they seek to do your will; pray for clarity of ministry opportunities, for protection from evil for them and their families.
  • Ask God to make our congregation generous in giving of their time and gifts for the benefit of others.

For the Community and Kingdom

  • Pray that the Highlands Ranch and the surrounding communities will join us in worship and may experience “the hope that does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us” (Romans 5:5).
  • Pray that the church will be empowered to tell the good news to a world where millions are estranged from God. Ask that believers everywhere will proclaim the forgiveness of sins and new life for all who repent and believe.

For Sharing the Gospel

  • Pray that we can share the gospel with the boldness of Peter.
  • Pray that the unsaved may realize that life is meaningless apart from God. Ask that they will seek true meaning in him.

April 29: The Promise Embodied (Marks of the church)

Acts 2: 42-47

The church started fast, the church started big, and the church started changing the community immediately. What were the marks of the church at its birth and what do those marks look like for us today?

As you pray this week, thank God for our community of believers and for our ability through God’s grace and love to help anyone who has a need.

Personal Prayer

  • Praise God for his limitless power. Give thanks that God is willing to strengthen you with power through the Spirit within you.
  • Confess when you fail to truly live out the truth of Christ in you, the hope of glory.

For your Family and Friends

  • Pray that parents will be so firmly rooted in Jesus that their children cannot miss seeing the fruit that they bear as his disciples.
  • Pray that God will stir up in those who do not know him personally a longing to know God.

For the Church

  • Pray for a spirit of urgency as real needs are met and lives are changed by the power of Jesus.
  • Pray that we will be a house of prayer, that prayer is integrated into who we are as a congregation.

For the Community and Kingdom

  • Pray for the relationship we are building with Sand Creek Elementary.
  • Help us to see people with your eyes, full of compassion and love. Help us to see needs, hurts, and struggles and not walk away – but respond in Christ-like love. Help us to take time to invest in the lives of others.

For Sharing the Gospel

  • Pray that unsaved people will search for and find the comfort that only Jesus can provide.
  • Ask God to break down and remove the obstacles in their lives that keep them from seeing and responding to the Holy Spirit’s presence.
